Mountain Equipment Co-op's Envirofund

Tuesday 24 July 2007

Our most exciting news of 2005 was of the $100,000 grant awarded to us by Mountain Equipment Co-op's Envirofund. Our strong community support and the high ecological values and sensitive habitat in the forest were the reasons our project was chosen that year. The grant allowed the CCFS to pay down the debt we acquired in purchasing the first parcel, and put an $18,000 deposit on the second parcel of the Cumberland Community Forest, total price: $365,000.

Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce Environmental Initiative Award

Tuesday 24 July 2007

The CCFS was chosen as the 2005 recipient for the Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce Environmental Initiative Award. Reasons cited for the award included the Forest Society's consistent efforts over the previous five years to educate the public about the value of raw land and to raise funds for the acquisition of sensitive habitat near Cumberland. The wide community support earned by the Society as a result of its efforts was mentioned as well.

Coast Sustainability Trust

Sunday 22 July 2007

In 2005, the CCFS won the Coast Sustainability Trust maximum grant of $100,000 for demonstrating that the acquisition of the forest lands would provide long-term economic benefit to the Village of Cumberland and the Comox Valley. This money was used to help pay for the second parcel of forest that was purchased in December 2005 for $365,000.
