April was a pretty exciting month for the Cumberland Forest with 3 big events, a new delicious new business partnership and a major grant funding announcement!
Our April 17th Spring Trivia event, held this year at the CRI hall welcomed over 350 Trivia Players and raised over $11,000 in a single night! Our Spring Plant sale held on Saturday April 18th raised just under $2000 and our Earth Day celebrations and photoshoot raised over $1000 from local businesses including Polka Dot Pants, Dark Side Chocolates and Rusty Rooster! That’s over $14,000 in 5 days. Not bad for a little Village!
Cumberland Brewing Company also made a big announcement that their newest beer, Forest Fog, is an ongoing fundraiser for the Cumberland Forest. 25 cents of every litre sold of the beer will be donated to the forest – for as long as the beer is made! That’s a great reason to order a Forest Fog, anywhere its served!
Finally, the Cumberland Forest also received word that we have been approved for a grant of $220,000 from the Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program of BC Hydro specifically to support our purchase in the riparian areas and wetlands along side Perseverance Creek. This is a huge boost for our campaign and our work to ensure the creek and the forest is protected.
April was a great month – let’s see what May brings!
