Space Nugget Saved!

Meaghan CursonsNews

Today is a very exciting day for the Cumberland Forest community. We have 2 announcements that we are super happy to share with you.

First – Mountain Equipment Co-op has stepped up again and awarded our community a grant for $100,000! They did this in 2005 and we feel so privileged that they selected us again for this rare honour. This has completely closed the fundraising gap for the Space Nugget parcel and helped to us achieve an incredible thing today! Here’s what they had to say about our project.

“The Space Nugget lands are ‘green gold’, offering outstanding ecological and outdoor recreation values and important natural capital to the Cumberland Forest. MEC members make our community investments possible, and we are proud to once again funnel their support to the purchase and protection of an invaluable piece of Vancouver Island.”

Second – We have officially SAVED SPACE NUGGET! 40 hectares of beautiful forest next to our community have been saved for generations to come. What a legacy! You did this Cumberland Forest Community!

We’re not done yet, but we’ll take a deep breath this summer and savour our collective accomplishment. Then we’ll continue our work and kick into‪#‎projectperseverance‬ to protect the threatened forest, wetlands and riparian areas along Perseverance Creek.
