The spawning Coho were watching closely as Cumberland Forest volunteers crawled up and down the banks next to the new Lower Perseverance Creek Pedestrian bridge. Last week, CCFS Program Coordinator Heather Thomson, Current Environmental and stream keeper volunteers completed Phase 1 restoration plantings and creek bank stabilization in the lower corridor.
Perseverance Creek is a complex system that has been impacted by over 150 years of industrial activity in the landscapes surrounding Cumberland. But the salmon and the trout continue to return, despite the odds, to make sure we all remember the creek is, indeed, salmon bearing.
Did you know the Cumberland Community Forest Society has been purchasing privately owned forest lands and building stewardship community for 25 years? Please join us in 2025 to celebrate the incredible work of our small but mighty village and get involved in exciting new land protection, climate resilience and restoration initiatives.
