Exploring the Future of the Lower Perseverance / Comox Lake Conservation Lands

September 7, 2023 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Join the Cumberland Community Forest Society and Connected by Water for a walk and talk in the Lower Perseverance / Comox Lake Conservation Lands (aka Coal Beach).
Learn about the complex history of these lands and waters, climate change impacts, and the collaborative conservation planning process underway to protect these lands in a way that keeps both nature and community safe.

Protecting salmon and trout in Perseverance Creek, restoring damaged ecosystems, potential road and bridge works, caring for the source of the Comox Valley’s drinking water, preventing forest fires (engine sparks and beach fires), shifting motorized vehicles use away from this area, and building a strong stewardship culture will be critical to protect these lands for future generations.
How will we do this? What role can community play? What role can you play?

Walkers, swimmers, riders, dirt bikers, ORV users all welcome. It takes a Village to protect a watershed and restore the land. If you currently access these lands and wish to know more about the process underway – please join us.

Meet at the “Coal Beach” trailhead just past the Perseverance Creek Bridge on Comox Lake Road. Plan for 90 min – 2 hours. Sturdy shows or hiking sandals that can get wet are recommended.

*the Lower Perseverance / Comox Lake Conservation Lands are separate parcels of land, in the unceded territory of the K’omoks First Nation, with title held by the Comox Valley Regional District, Village of Cumberland and Cumberland Community Forest Society receptively – who are working together to align conservation and management plans.
