Support the Forest

With the the help of our Community Partners, Legacy Donors and Guardians, the CCFS has purchased 71 hectares of forest lands surrounding the Village of Cumberland since 2000. We have now set our sights on another 50 hectares of forests scheduled to be logged by 2016.

Our current focus is to raise $1,200,000 to purchase 3 more parcels of lush second growth forest land filled with wetlands, diverse plants and animals, heritage landmarks and significant hiking and mountain biking trails including Bronco’s Perseverance.

The Cumberland Forest is a mature coastal forest surrounding the Village of Cumberland on Vancouver Island. This forest is an important habitat corridor and home to two watersheds, at risk species, salmon bearing creeks, wetlands and riparian areas, heritage landmarks and hiking and biking trails enjoyed by families, naturalists, hikers, mountain bikers and many others. The future of this forest and the future of Cumberland’s economy are directly linked. There are imminent plans to log this forest.
