In a small ceremony held in September, Cumberland resident Meaghan Cursons received the King Charles III Coronation Medal.

The medal, presented by MLA Josie Osbourne, recognizes Cursons’ significant contributions to the Village of Cumberland and the wider Comox Valley. Osborne, whose provincial Mid Island-Pacific Rim riding includes Cumberland, said “there is no one more deserving than Meaghan for this recognition. Her incredible leadership and activism has inspired and motivated youth and adults alike to get engaged and make Cumberland a better place to live. We are so lucky to have Meaghan championing our community and this incredible place we call home.”

Cursons is a high-energy non-profit and community leader who has been active in the Comox Valley for 30 years. Her community-building efforts have spanned land conservation and watershed protection, and the arts, heritage, youth, and economic development sectors. In addition to being the Executive Director of the Cumberland Community Forest Society since 2013, she also serves as Chair of the Cumberland Heritage Commission, a director with Island Coastal Economic Trust, and Vice Chair of the Comox Valley Art Gallery.
