Cumberland Forest headed to Puntledge Park for Family Watershed Day

The Cumberland Forest is excited to join the Comox Valley Conservation and Stewardship Community for a FREE day-long celebration of the watersheds and waterways that connect us all in the Comox Valley!

Family Watershed Day runs from 9 am till 3 pm and offers a wonderful opportunity to get to know the special community organizations who steward the natural systems and beautiful landscapes that surround us.

Discover key land, water, and climate issues facing our community, find out how you can get involved, and learn more about the long standing stewardship of K’omoks people, the original keepers of this land.

Explore restoration and habitat enhancement projects, salmon cycles, drinking water, forests, creeks, wetlands and estuaries – and so much more. Start the day with Yoga by the River, participate in watershed art projects, enjoy kids activities, take in some hands-on learning, or join a guided walk – all looking out over the Puntledge River. Uncover all the ways we are truly Connected by Water in the Comox Valley.

Participating organizations include Project Watershed, CVRD Connected by Water, Plants are Teachers, Cumberland Community Forest Society, Brooklyn Creek Watershed Society, Millard Piercy Watershed Stewards, MARS, Comox Valley Land Trust, Tsolum River Restoration, DFO Salmon Enhancement, K’omoks First Nation Archeology/Natural Resources, Morrison Creek Streamkeepers, Comox Valley Nature, Little River Enhancement Society, Beaufort Watershed Stewards, Courtenay Youth Climate Corps, ReGenBC and
Lake Park Society

In addition to ongoing fun, connections and learning with local organizations, there are additional activities scheduled throughout the day. Bring your friends and family, pack a picnic and stay for the day!

Gentle Flow Yoga for the River – 9:30-10:30

Join us for a gentle, grounded flow inspired by the living watershed beneath and around us. As we move beside the Puntledge River, we’ll explore our connection to water through breath, movement, and awareness—reflecting on the cycles that carry water from mountain to stream, river to ocean, and back again. A slow practice rooted in place, ecology, and our shared dependence on healthy watersheds. Annicia Fogal is the founder of Shift Experience Collective, a connection catalyst and lifelong lover of the natural world. Rooted in Cumberland, BC, she creates spaces and experiences that invite people to breathe deeply, and reconnect with themselves, one another, and with the living earth through mindfulness, yoga, nature connection, and other embodied practices. Bring a yoga mat

Luke the Cuke – Renegade Poet and Beginners Improv 9 am – 1 pm

Did you know that Cucumbers are 95% water? And this bodacious gourd has traveled the world extensively, composing nonsensical songs, quirky poems and absolutely outrageous improvisational fun for the young and old. This is Luke the Cuke, a Comox Valley based multiple disciplinary artist, educator, and actor, he creates spontaneous poetry for any wayward stranger, and also leads simple improv comedy with all who are feeling even a teensy bit brave. He’s big on Vitamin K and Magnesium, did you know that? Whether it’s sliced, diced, cubed, or in a sandwich, you’ll bust your seams to Luke the Cukes on-the-spot antics and artistic foibles.

Woven by Water: The River’s Living Palette – All Day!

Join artist Juliana Bedoya from Plants Are Teachers the Connected by Water team for a hands-on participatory weaving project. Using recycled t-shirt yarn and willow, participants will create Water Catchers that honor the colours and connections of the Comox Lake Watershed. Each participant will contribute their hoop to the larger, ongoing, place-remembering installation that moves around the land of the Comox Valley. Together, we’ll explore how creeks, rivers, lakes, and oceans are all connected, and how these waterways sustain life across species, places and generations. As we weave, we’ll reflect on caring for water, conserving it, and committing to protect what connects us all. All welcome

Family Watershed Day is presented by the members of the Comox Valley Conservation Partnership and their community partners.

If charitable giving is part of your financial strategy this year, we would be honoured to be considered.
