The Western Toads are on the move!

It’s toad time folks! The Western toads are moving out of the water and stretching their new little legs! This means very soon migrating toads will be dispersing into the forest especially around Allen lake via some surrounding trails and roads.

Toad information signage is now on all trails surrounding Allen Lake and our friends at United Riders of Cumberland are constructing a ‘toad underpass’ and ‘toad guide fence’ tomorrow morning on the road between Bottom Vanilla / Teapot and Trestle / Railroad.

There will be bright and obvious signage on the trails that folks are being asked to refrain from using. Trail users are requested to find an alternative route away from migration. We will be reposting trail impact updates directly from UROC on IG and FB for your information. Please stay tuned!

This is such an amazing evolution of the Western Toad Project since we started this program in 2020. We’re grateful for how UROC and the trails community has embraced this issue and are taking action as managers of the trail network to protect the migration of the species of special concern!

The trailhead “Toad Patrol” booth will be activating later this week! Message heather@cumberlandforest.com to sign up for a shift and help us share information with visitors to the Cumberland Forest and surrounding trail network!

If charitable giving is part of your financial strategy this year, we would be honoured to be considered.
